History

If the town was previously only an obscure fishing village, so from the 1960 it gradually became the center of recreation and entertainment; here started to develop the first hotels in Benedorm. History of Benidorm starts in the 3^rd century BC. Here lived the ancient Greeks, Phoenicians, and after the Second Punic War - the Romans.

During the 16^th – 17^th centuries and even in the 18^th – 19^th centuries, the pirates often attacked the coast of Benidorm. At this period, the town was often destroyed and rebuilt anew. The first vacationers were seen here at the end of the 19^th century. They were Spaniards, and people from the mainly nearby units of the town.
